FCRA case filings increased significantly in 2015
According to a report by WebRecon, filings under the Fair Credit Reporting Act in 2015 exceeded the amount of cases filed in 2014 by more than 53 percent and are up more than 147 percent since 2007.
WebRecon’s monthly debt collection and complaint statistics report shows that in 2015 there were 3,751 FCRA-related case filings compared to 2,445 in 2014 and just 1,515 in 2007.
Of these 3,751 FCRA suits, 16 percent of them were filed as class actions, according to the report.
This report stresses, now more than ever, the importance of companies taking the time to evaluate their existing background check policies and procedures to ensure compliance not only with the FCRA, but with other existing applicable laws.
