Reminder: USCIS Provides No Exceptions for I-9 and E-Verify Requirements During Natural Disasters
Essentially, natural disasters and other unforeseen circumstances are not adequate exceptions when it comes to the timely completion of the Form I-9 or E-Verify.
Employees with lost, stolen, or damaged documents may present receipts for those documents that are acceptable for up to 90 days from the date of hire. The employee must present the actual replacement document or provide another accepted Form I-9 document instead of the replacement within those 90 days. As a reminder, E-Verify may only be run on actual documentation - not receipts.
For more information, please review the USCIS's Fact Sheet: Form I-9 and E-Verify Guidance for Those Affected by Natural Disasters and Other Unforeseen Circumstances.
